折断的胡萝卜、形状怪异的土豆...有关人员在周五(11月18日)中午用数吨被超市拒绝的歪瓜裂枣为5000人准备一顿丰盛的免费午餐。
这个活动将在位于伦敦市中心的特拉法加广场(Trafalgar Square)举办，其目的是为了向人们证明，很多在英国被丢掉的食品也是能吃的。
英国多位知名厨师在现场准备这些美味大餐，让人们了解如何用剩饭以及本可能扔掉的食品做出可口的饭菜。
本周公布的官方数字显示，英国的家庭平均每年浪费价值680英镑的食物。
组织者希望人们能够承诺减少食物浪费，并希望很多公司和企业也能够做到这一点。
食品浪费
这个“让五千人吃饱”(Feeding the 5000)的开粥棚式的活动是由英国农场主以及慈善机构一起合作来宣传不要浪费的理念。
活动组织者斯图亚特(Tristram Stuart)认为，在西方社会的食品浪费非常严重。他说，“在过去40年来，食品价格有所下降，一些食品经常被扔掉。”
他说，“当人们手中拿着一碗美味食品时，就会自问为什么会扔掉这些东西。我们也就证明了自己的意图。”
斯图亚特还说，“世界上有10亿人处于饥饿当中，西方社会对食品的需求量让其它地区的食品价格上涨。而我们却把三分之一的食品给扔掉。”
他指出，“你自己可能有能力这么做，但是这个地球可以吗?”
英国政府应对浪费与资源项目的调查结果显示，自从2006-2007年开始，家庭的食品浪费量已经下降了13%，但是每年被浪费的食品达到120亿英镑之多。
